SEO - What is it?
We all know the benefits of SEO. Many businesses are making use of SEO for augmenting their business and marking the presence online. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, as is commonly referred norm, is the process of making the website more “visible”. This is achieved by using the algorithmic capability of the search engine. There are other types of search engines marketing’s, which mainly target “paid listings”.
Most of the search engines are text driven. When a “search request” is given, the search engines will hunt the internet for a webpage, which will have the maximum number of matching words, which are present in the “search request”. SEO can target various types of search, including the most basic, which would be the “text search”. Some of the types of searches targeted by SEO are:
• Text search: This targets the “text” entered in the search criteria.
• Image search: This targets the images according to the search criteria.
• Local search: This targets the search request in the specific geographical location as per the search request.
• Video search: This targets videos pertaining to the search request.
• Industry specific: These targets the search pertaining to the specific type of domain based on the search criteria.
The optimization of search engines began in the early to mid-1990s by the content providers. This was when the first search engines were classifying the early Web. In the beginning, all that needed to be done by the content provider was to send the address of a page, or URL, to the different search engines. The search engines would then “crawl” to that page. They would extract the information present on that page, including links present to other websites. This information would then get stored or “indexed”. That way when a search request was given, based on the information stored in the search engine, the address of the website, or URL, would be displayed.
In this method, main factor for search engines was “keyword density”. Because of this, early search engines could be manipulated by webmasters. From this, the process of “searching” has evolved to what it is now.
Search Engine Optimization methods are broadly the techniques that are used to get more visibility for a website in the search engine’s result page. Most search engines use “crawlers” to find pages in the search results. A crawler is a program that browses the web in a methodical manner. What this program does is store the information of the visited web page. This way, the indexed information can be displayed faster in a search query whenever relevant. This method is called web crawling, or spidering.
